Pokhara
Where the Himalayas come down to the water.
Wake to the fishtail peak of Machhapuchhre mirrored in Phewa Lake. Drift over the valley beneath a paraglider’s wing. Climb to a white stupa for a sunrise that turns the whole Annapurna range to gold. Pokhara is Nepal’s gentlest pleasure and its adventure capital at once, and we build your days here around exactly the pace you want.

When to Visit
THE CITY OF LAKES
Two cities in one: the calm and the thrill.
Most visitors arrive in Pokhara to slow down, and stay because it speeds their heart up. Strung along the eastern shore of Phewa Lake, the Lakeside district is all rowboats, rooftop cafes and the smell of ground coffee, with the Annapurnas filling the skyline behind. It is the softest place in Nepal to do very little.
Then there is the other Pokhara. The one where you step off a hill at Sarangkot into a paraglider’s harness, where the country’s longest zip line drops through forest, where ultralights buzz the foothills and rafts run the Seti. Few destinations let you swing so easily between deep calm and pure adrenaline, often in the same afternoon. Whether you want a lakeside reset, a stopover before or after your Annapurna trek, or an adventure-packed long weekend, we shape Pokhara to fit.
WHAT POKHARA OFFERS
The experiences worth waking up for.
A handful of these define a great Pokhara trip. We’ll help you choose and arrange every one.
SUNRISE
Sarangkot at first light
Drive up to Sarangkot (1,592 m) in the dark and watch dawn break across Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and the fishtail of Machhapuchhre. The single most photographed sunrise in Nepal, and it earns it.
ADVENTURE
Paragliding over Phewa
Launch from Sarangkot and soar tandem with a certified pilot, the lake glinting below and the white peaks dead ahead. No experience needed; expect around NPR 8,500 upward for a standard flight.
WATER
Phewa Lake & Tal Barahi
Take a hand-rowed boat across calm water to the island temple of Tal Barahi, or simply paddle at your own pace as Machhapuchhre doubles itself on the surface.
SPIRIT
Peace Pagoda & Pumdikot
Hike or drive to the gleaming white World Peace Pagoda above the lake, then to the towering Shiva statue at Pumdikot, both crowned with 360-degree valley and mountain views.
EARTH
Falls & sacred caves
Stand where Davis Falls vanishes underground, then cross to the sacred Gupteshwor Mahadev cave directly opposite. Mahendra and the Bat Cave round out Pokhara’s underworld.
ESCAPE
Begnas Lake & beyond
Trade the buzz of Lakeside for the quiet of Begnas Lake, or push further to the Kusma sky bridge, ziplines and bungee for a full day of thrills outside the city.
HOW TO SPEND IT
A perfect three days, as we'd plan it.
A starting point, not a straitjacket. Every detail flexes around your pace, budget and energy.
Day 1 · Arrive & unwind
Settle into Lakeside
Land from Kathmandu (a 25-minute flight or scenic drive), check in by the lake, and ease into the evening with a rowboat to Tal Barahi and dinner over the water.
Day 2 · Sky & summit
Sunrise, then soaring
Pre-dawn to Sarangkot for the Annapurna sunrise, then, if you’re game, a tandem paraglide back down toward the lake. Afternoon at the Peace Pagoda and Pumdikot for sunset.
Day 3 · Earth & water
Caves, falls & a quiet lake
Davis Falls and the Gupteshwor cave in the morning, then escape to peaceful Begnas Lake, or add a Kusma sky-bridge and zipline day for one last hit of adrenaline.
WHEN TO GO
Best time to visit Pokhara.
Pokhara rewards visitors year-round, but autumn (October–November) and spring (March–April) give the clearest mountain views and the most comfortable weather, the same windows that suit Annapurna trekking. The monsoon (June–August) brings lush green hills but often hides the peaks behind cloud, while winter mornings are crisp and clear, if chilly at sunrise. For a month-by-month view, see our guide to the best time to visit Nepal.
GOOD TO KNOW
Getting there & getting around.
Pokhara is roughly 200 km west of Kathmandu: a 25-minute domestic flight or a 6–7 hour drive through the hills. Within the city, taxis, rented bikes and scooters cover Lakeside easily, and we arrange private transport for sunrise runs and day trips. Most visitors fold Pokhara into a wider Nepal trip; it pairs naturally with an Annapurna trek or a relaxed lakeside few days.
FAQ
Pokhara, answered.
How many days should I spend in Pokhara?
Three to four days is the sweet spot. That’s enough for a Sarangkot sunrise, an adventure like paragliding, the lake and pagoda sights, and still time to slow down at a Lakeside cafe. Trekkers often add a night either side of an Annapurna trek.
Is Pokhara just for trekkers?
Not at all. While it’s the main gateway to the Annapurna trails, plenty of visitors come purely for the lake, the views, the food and the adventure sports. It works equally as a relaxed city break and as an adrenaline base.
How much does paragliding in Pokhara cost?
Standard tandem flights from Sarangkot start around NPR 8,500 in 2026, with longer cross-country flights costing more. Prices typically include transport, equipment and insurance; photos and video are usually a small extra. We book trusted, certified operators only.
What’s the best Pokhara sunrise spot?
Sarangkot, at about 1,592 metres, is the classic, with a wide view of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri. For a quieter alternative, the World Peace Pagoda and Pumdikot also deliver superb dawn views over the lake and peaks.
How do I get from Kathmandu to Pokhara?
Either a 25-minute domestic flight or a 6–7 hour drive along the highway. We can arrange flights, a private vehicle, or a tourist coach depending on your budget and how much of the scenery you want to see on the way.
Can you combine Pokhara with a trek?
Yes, and most people do. Pokhara is the launch point for the Annapurna Base Camp and Annapurna Circuit treks, so a lakeside stay slots naturally before or after. Tell us your plans and we’ll build the whole trip as one.
